Vermillion, 122.4; West Central, 105.15. The junior varsity competition was won by the Tanagers with 82.7 points.
"We has some very good performances by our seniors tonight," stated Coach Upward. Heather Zimmer-man's performance on beam was a personal best for this season as she posted an 8.5 score on beam. Senior Raychel Lorenz bested the field on bars as she put up an 8.1 score. Lorenz was followed on bars by senior Emily Renner. Renner's 7.6 was good enough to put her in second place on the unevens. Lorenze continued her evenings winning ways as her score of 8.25 on floor exercise was the top score on the floor for the night. Junior Tia Krier has a season best performance on the floor exercise also with a score of 7.25. Tanager freshman Elly Melby won the All-Around competition at the dual with a score of 31.35. Fellow freshman Amber Walker finished fourth in the All-Around competition with a score of 29.05. Lorenz's 30.55 in the All-Around competition was good enough to earn her third place honors. "We are starting to make the move with some new skills in some of our routines," added Upward. "Our season is rapidly approaching the end. We need to get the skills mastered soon so we can compete them a couple of times before region and state."
The junior varsity team came very close to fielding a full team for the meet. The Tanager JV scored 56.7 points as they won their portion of the meet. West Central was unable to fill the needed 16 sponts, scoring a team score of 32.7. For the Tanagers, Cassie Donahoe won the All-Around competition with a score of 18.85. Donahoe was the first place finisher on bars, while Rory Tucker won the junior varsity beam competition. "We are only three spots short of fielding a full team," stated assistant coach Clayborne. "They are working really hard and it is fun to see them grow each day at practice."
