"Sierra Allen got off to a hot start and Alicia Brown and Sara Kjose shot it well to help us on the offensive end," said VHS Coach Jamie Parish. "Brown and Allen combined for 13 rebounds on the defensive end, however, we are getting abused on the boards at this point in the season. Being out rebounded 42-26 was what kept Sioux Falls in the game.
"We have some upperclassmen that need to take it upon themselves to start doing a better job rebounding for us or we will have some problems as our schedule gets tougher."
The Tanagers forced 32 Sioux Falls Christian turnovers to help the victory.
The Tanagers jumped ahead 15-13 after the opening period, went into the locker room up 28-26 at halftime, and then held a lead of 38-30 going into the fourth quarter.
VHS sank 3 of 15 three-point attempts and connected on 11 of 16 free throw attempts. The Tanagers connected on 18 of 59 field goals, while Sioux Falls Christian was 20 of 48 from the field. Sioux Falls Christian sank 2 of 7 three-point tries and hit 0 of 4 from the line.
VHS was outrebounded 42-26.
