Tanager varsity routs Norfolk junior varsity
The Vermillion Tanagers routed the Norfolk JV Panthers 68-22 in girls' basketball Dec. 29 at Crofton in a win ignited by a first-quarter blitz.

"We had an opportunity to get everyone a lot of minutes today," said VHS coach Jamie Parish. "Alexa Walker rebounded and shot the ball well, Sophie did a great job of pressuring the ball and kicking it ahead in transition. Good team effort overall."

The Tanagers took the lead 29-2 after the first quarter, and margins of 13-8 and 13-7 in the second and third quarters boosted the lead to 55-17 going into the final period.


VHS improved its season mark to 4-1, while Norfolk JV fell to 0-5.

VHS hit 2 of 7 three-pointers and made 8 of 16 from the line.

The Tanagers hit 29 of 68 field goals, while Norfolk JV was 9 of 39 from the field.

Norfolk JV made 0 of 2 three-pointers and connected on 4 of 8 free throw tries.

VHS held a 30-18 edge on the boards.
