The 26 points by Hoffman (Sr., Mitchell) broke her previous high of 17 set at St. Cloud State in the 2006-07 season finale. Hoffman had her first double-double of the season and the third of her career. Hoffman had a career-high in field goals with nine and made 7-of-7 from the foul line. She had six offensive and five defensive rebounds for her total of 11. In addition, she had three assists and two steals in 37 minutes of action. Jeana Hoffman (Sr., Mitchell) added 18 points, including 4-of-8 from three-point range. She also had a team-high five assists.
USD was 25-of-65 from the field for 38.5 percent, including just 9-of-25 from three-point range for 36 percent. The Coyotes made 16-of-20 free throws for 80 percent.
SMSU, who was led in scoring by Sara Leidall with 17, hit 26-of-55 shots from the field for 47.3 percent. SMSU managed to make just 4-of-14 shots from three-point range. They made 9-of-14 free throws. SMSU won the rebound battle, 40-36.
The Mustangs took an early 9-4 lead against South Dakota after Abby Oakland hit a three-pointer at the 16:12 mark. USD rallied to tie the score at 11-11 with 13:01 left in the first half after Jasmine Mosley (So., Bellevue, NE) made a lay-up. Bridget Yoerger (Jr., Hinton, IA) scored on a layup to help USD built a 20-16 advantage with 9:54 left in the opening half. The Coyotes extended the lead to 30-22 when freshman Amber Hegge (Fr., Crofton, NE) made a pair of free throws. With the help of a three-pointer by Maggie Youngberg (Jr., Yankton), who scored nine points, and a jumper by Jenna Hoffman, the Coyotes built a 45-31 lead with 22 seconds left in the game. Megan Stadler scored for SMSU just before the buzzer to cut the USD lead to 45-33. Jenna Hoffman scored 15 points to lead USD in the opening half.
South Dakota opened the second half with a 15-8 run to extend their lead to 60-41 after Jeana Hoffman made a layup. The Coyotes had a 20-point lead at 63-43 at the 12:04 mark after Jenna Hoffman converted a three-point play. Down 72-52 with 4:37 left in the game, SMSU finished on a 13-3 run to draw within 10 points in the final minute.
