At 2007 Year-End Convention of the South Dakota Jaycees, the Vermillion Jaycees finished eight in the Parade of Chapters. The Parade of Chapters is a competition among local chapters based on programming, community involvement, and membership.
Vermillion Jaycee members Greg and Jen Hovland received the Membership Area Program Manager of the Year award for their efforts with the First Timers program. The First Timers program is a way to introduce first-time convention goers to other people. Greg and Jen changed the programming in 2007 to include training on the benefits of business cards and making meaningful contacts.
Vermillion Jaycee Jen Hovland competed in and won the Speak-Up competition. By winning the competition she will represent the South Dakota Jaycees in the Speak-Up competition at the United States Jaycees 2007 Year-End celebration in Memphis, TN March 18-22. The Speak-Up is a speech competition involving prepared and impromptu speeches.
The Vermillion Junior Chamber, most commonly known as Vermillion Jaycees, was chartered in 1964. The Vermillion Jaycees is an organization of young people (men and women between the ages of 18-40) who learn leadership skills by running projects and attending trainings.
