Vermillion JV can't overcome Cardinals
The Vermillion Tanagers were defeated by the South Sioux City Cardinals 85-42 in boys' junior varsity basketball Dec. 13 at South Sioux City after falling to a first-half blitz.

"As a team, we came out very flat," said VHS coach Jon Reuvers. "We need to work harder on the defensive end. We made a better effort in the second half."

The loss was aided by the Tanagers committing 21 turnovers.


The Tanagers fell behind 25-8 after the first quarter, trailed 45-19 after the second quarter, and then trailed 67-37 going into the final period.

VHS remained winless at 0-3, while SSC is now 2-1.

VHS hit 4 of 10 three-point tries and hit 8 of 13 free throw tries. The Tanagers sank 15 of 42 field goals, while SSC was 33 of 55 from the field. SSC connected on 6 of 14 three-point attempts and sank 16 of 20 free throw attempts.
