Vermillion roars back, defeats Orioles 53-48
The Vermillion Tanagers roared back in the fourth quarter to defeat the Lennox Orioles 53-48 in girls' basketball Jan. 7 at home in a win capped by a 23-7 fourth-quarter surge.

VHS had trailed by 11 going into the final period.

"Our kids did a nice job of battling until the end and finishing out the game," said VHS coach Jamie Parish.


The Tanagers fell behind 19-8 after the opening period, trailed 29-22 after the second quarter, and then trailed 41-30 after the third quarter.

VHS improved its record to 4-3, while Lennox dropped to 4-3.

VHS sank 1 of 8 three-pointers and made 16 of 29 from the line. The Tanagers made 18 of 54 field goal attempts, while Lennox was 16 of 61 from the field. Lennox sank 0 of 8 three-point tries and hit 16 of 23 free throw tries.

VHS was outrebounded 45-23.
