VHS Freshman boys defeated

The Vermillion Tanagers were defeated by the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies 48-20 in boys' basketball Jan. 15 at home after falling prey to a 16-2 third-quarter deficit.

"We played hard and with good effort," said VHS coach Jon Brooks. "The kids executed some things nicely, and now we need to continue to improve."

The Tanagers fell behind 14-4 after the opening period, trailed 24-9 at halftime, and then trailed 40-11 going into the final period.

The loss dropped VHS to a record of 1-4, while EPJ improved to 4-1.

VHS sank 1 of 3 three-point attempts and made 1 of 7 free throw attempts. The Tanagers sank 9 of 38 from the field, while EPJ was 23 of 46 from the field. EPJ made 0 of 4 three-pointers and hit 2 of 4 free throw attempts.
