The Madison Bulldogs flexed their muscle Tuesday, Jan. 8 as they scored a 143.55 against the Tanager gymnasts' 127.05. The Tanagers did extremely well as their 127.05 was a season best. "Madison is the real deal when it comes to quality gymnastics programs," stated Coach Upward. "They have extreme depth in each event and can probably replace one or two scores on their varsity with a junior varsity gymnast."
For the Tanagers, placing a gymnast in the top five was a difficult chore. On balance beam, DeNell Dykstra was able to put together an 8.3 routine giving her a fourth place finish. On vault, Amber Walker was able to stick her landing on her Yamishita vault and pull off a score of 8.7. This was good enough to put her in fifth place in the vault competition. The only other top five finishers for the Tanagers were Walker's 32.25 and Elly Melby's 32.55 in the all-around competition.
The junior varsity competition was just as one sided as the varsity competition when you look at scores and place finishes. The Madison JV totaled 124.05 to Vermillion's 46.35. The only Tanagers to place in the junior varsity competition were Cassie Donahue in the all-around competition with a score of 16.75 and Jade Fostvedt on the floor exercise placed fifth with a score of 4.8.
