Beresford ends VHS girls' basketball season
The Vermillion Tanagers lost to the Beresford Watchdogs 51-38 in girls' basketball Feb. 19 at Elk Point in the first round of the District 8A Girls Basketball Tournament.

"Beresford did a great job tonight," said VHS coach Jamie Parish. "We tried very hard to take away the things they wanted to do, but they were resilient. Unfortunately for our seniors, this was their final game, but the list of accomplishments they have had during their time here is so impressive. Hopefully, we have some younger kids who will strive for the same successes that this group had."

The Tanagers fell behind 6-4 after the opening period, trailed 17-14 after the second period, and then trailed 31-23 going into the fourth quarter.

The loss dropped VHS to a record of 7-12, while Beresford improved to 17-4.

VHS hit 5 of 18 three-pointers and connected on 9 of 14 free throw tries. The Tanagers sank 12 of 46 from the field, while Beresford was 14 of 41 from the field. Beresford connected on 3 of 10 three-pointers and connected on 20 of 30 free throw tries.
