After graduation from Vermillion High School, he went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad in Omaha, NE, until he was called into the US Navy in 1942 where he served on the Atlantic Weather Patrol until his discharge in 1946.
After his discharge, he returned to the Union Pacific in Omaha, later in Butte, MT and later Boise, ID until his retirement in 1985. After his retirement, he and his wife, Loretta, moved to Mesa where they lived at the time of his death.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Don. He is survived by his wife, Loretta; a son Kurt of Woodenville, WA; two step-sons, Ronald Wallace, Portland, OR, and Michael Wallace, Meridian, ID; and three brothers, Stanley, York, NE, Claire, Tempe, AZ and James, Sioux Falls.
Memorial services were held Saturday, Feb. 23, in Mesa, AZ.
