Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Irene. Burial followed in the Hillcrest Cemetery at Irene.
Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21 with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Hansen Funeral Home in Irene.
Lois Mae Hoxeng was born Oct. 1, 1925 to Ingward and Laura (Peterson) Hoxeng of rural Volin. She attended Pleasant Valley Country School near Volin, graduated from Volin High School, and received a one year teaching certificate from Augustana College. She taught at Rempp Country School.
Lois married Milburn Kjeldseth June 3, 1945 at Zion Lutheran Church of rural Volin. They had one son, George (Loann) of Irene. Together they farmed in the Volin and Irene area for 62 years.
Lois was very active in the Zion Church and later in the Calvary Church, holding many offices in the women's groups. She was a Sunday-School teacher, quilter and always a fellowship leader. She loved music. Lois sang in church choirs and quartet, cantatas, duets with her husband and to her grand- daughters when they were young. Her musical talents also included the love of dancing. Lois and Milburn belonged to a square dance club, and the Danish Danc-ers of Viborg. Ballroom dancing was also a favorite activity.
Lois will be remembered for her friendly smile and enthusiastic greetings of "what's the news!" to all she met. She liked to be a part of her grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's events. She was a faithful friend, showing her concern by numerous phone conversations.
Her memory will be cherished by her husband, son, daughter-in-law and granddaughters, Megan (Matt) Gauer of Omaha, NE, Jenni (Darren) Miller of South Sioux City, NE and Jorcee (Travis) Hansen of Yankton; her brother, Ken of Valentine, NE; her sister, Evelyn Brewster of Denver, CO; nine great-grandchildren, Allyssa and Addyson Gauer, Justin, Cassandra, Brandon, Andrew and Tanner Miller, Irie and Brevin Hansen and many friends and relatives.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Maxine Wright.
