VHS had led by one after the third quarter. "Beresford is a very good team," said VHS coach Jamie Parish. "We had some opportunities to win this game; it's unfortunate that we just couldn't quite get the job done. Losing a player to injury in warm-ups could have really rattled our team, but they handled the situation and played hard."
VHS lost the game from the free throw line, making 6 of 7 charity tosses compared with 14 of 17 for Beresford. The Tanagers fell behind 14-9 at the end of the first period, led 25-20 after the second period, and then led 39-38 after the third period. The loss dropped VHS to a record of 7-7, while Beresford improved to 9-4.
VHS made 7 of 17 three-pointers. The Tanagers connected on 19 of 46 field goals, while Beresford was 18 of 54 from the field. Beresford connected on 3 of 10 three-point tries.
"In Alicia's first game back from injury, she shot the ball extremely well from the three-point line," coach Parish said. "Sierra Allen has done a great job recently, too, picking up some baskets and rebounding the basketball for us. Sara Kjose shot the ball well against Beresford's zone and was a big part of the reason Beresford had to change defenses."
