.Jessie Lorena Rasmussen, 78, of Vermillion, died March 15, 2008 at Sanford Vermillion Hospital.

She was born March 7, 1930 in Elm City to Loyal and Minnie (Styles) Brown. She attended Elmwood District #21 Rural School through the eighth grade, and worked as a surgical nurse at Dakota Hospital in Vermillion for many years.

She was a member of Cornerstone Church. She married Ralph "Babe" Rasmussen on Oct. 18, 1946. He died April 19, 2003.

Jessie worked on the farm until she was married. The couple lived on a farm near Vermillion, taking care of animals and chickens. The couple spent their life on the farm and running the boat club. Much time was spent outside watching the river and wildlife.

Jessie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was kind and compassionate, wearing her faith on her sleeve.

She is survived by a son and a daughter-in-law, Russell and Robin Rassmussen, Crane, MO; five grandchildren, Mark and Jennifer Swanson, Sioux Falls, Cody and John Rasmussen, Crane, MO, and Rebecca Stern, Sioux Falls; two great-grandsons, Connor and Bill Swanson; a sister and brother-in-law, JoAnn and Wayne Hawley, Burbank and a brother, Jim Brown, Vermillion.

Funeral services were held March 19, at Cornerstone Church, Vermillion, with the Rev. Devon Davoux officiating. Burial followed in BluffView Cemetery, Vermillion.

Visitation was held from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, at Iverson-Siecke Kober Funeral Home, Vermillion. A prayer service was held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 18 at the church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter, Linda Rasmussen, and brothers Donald, Clyde, Allen and Curtis Brown.
