John Koble
John Koble, 71, of Balta, ND, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008, on the family farm as a result of a farm accident. The funeral was Saturday at Our Lady of Mt. Caramel Catholic Church, in Balta, ND, with burial in the church cemetery.

He was born Dec. 8, 1936 to Conrad and Katherine Koble in Smokey Lake township, McHenry County. The family moved to a farm in Balta in 1955. He married Connie (Gunda) Massine July 24, 1961 in Balta, ND. They purchased the farm from his mother in 1962.

A lifetime rancher and farmer, he also worked for B&M Steel & Construction, Harvey, ND, and as a heavy equipment operator and driver for Pierce County. John and Gunda also owned and operated the Orrin Bar for 19 years.

He served on the Balta Township Board for almost 46 years and the Balta Farmers Union Board for 12 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Caramel Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Council in Orrin and Rugby, the Harvey Knights of Columbus – 4th Degree, the Devils Lake Elks Lodge #1216, the Rugby Eagles and Balta Wildlife Association.

He is survived by his wife, Gunda; six children, Susan Berg, Devils Lake, ND, Sandra Haman and Gerald Koble, Roseau, MN, Sara (Todd) Plemel, Devils Lake, ND, Gary (Carrie) Koble, Vermillion, Lt. Commander John (Ade) Koble, U.S.Navy, Naples, Italy; 11 grandchildren; three brothers, Conrad (Barb), Bob (Shirley), all of Minot, ND, Pete (Marlys) Valley City, ND; four sisters, Kaye Fettig and Alice (Ed) Axtman, Rugby, ND, Christine Wold, Minot, ND, and Faye (Joe) Roerick, Seattle WA.

Fr. Julian Kupisz and Fr. Duane Cote were the celebrants. Music was provided by the the Mt. Caramel church choir with Agatha Mattern, organist.

Casketbearers were Gary Grove, Mike Jundt, Larry Muffenbier, Larry Bickler, Kevin Wangler and Roger Hager. Honorary bearers were John's grandchildren and Douglas Vescovi.

Arrangements were by Anderson Funeral Home, Rugby, ND.
