Samson Richard Sprague died Feb. 22, 2008 in Covina, CA, after a long illness.He was born Nov. 18, 1931 in Yankton, to Clara (Muhs) and Richard Sprague.After graduating from high school in Wolsey, he served in the Navy during the Korean War from 1949 to 1953.After an honorable discharge, he attended Huron College.Sam married Lois Lucklum in 1954 and they moved to Vermillion where he attended USD.

From 1959 until 1962 they owned the S & S Photography Studio.In late 1962, he began working as a photographer at USD.In 1974 they moved to La Puente, CA. There he managed an auto parts warehouse until his retirement.

After Sam and Lois divorced, he married Sandra Wonders in 1990.


Dad was an avid hunter and fisherman and NASCAR enthusiast.He enjoyed buying old coins and had a very large collection.He was a loyal member of the VFW, Eagles, Moose and American Legion.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents; his second wife, Sandy; brother, LeRoy; sister, Margaret and son-in-law, Lee Shaffer.

He is survived by daughters, Vicki Evans, Jeni Shaffer and Lori Ann Berdahl all of La Puente, CA; two grandchildren, Patrick and Leslie; and a great-grandson, Ethan, also of La Puente.

You are home now, Dad, and we will miss you.
