Slow start leads to VHS 79-50 girls' loss
The Vermillion Tanagers were beaten by the Sioux City East Black Raiders 79-50 in girls' basketball Feb. 12 at Sioux City East after getting off to a slow start.

"We didn't react very well to their pressure and dug ourselves a hole that we couldn't recover from," said VHS coach Jamie Parish. "It's something that we discussed and planned for, but didn't execute it properly. We have a few days to prepare for our district tournament coming up next week."

The Tanagers fell behind 27-6 at the end of the first period, trailed 38-23 at halftime, and then trailed 67-35 after the third quarter.

The loss dropped VHS to a record of 6-11, while Sioux City East improved to 13-4.

VHS hit 2 of 7 three-pointers and hit 10 of 17 free throw tries. The Tanagers hit 19 of 46 field goals, while Sioux City East was 33 of 63 from the field. Sioux City East sank 3 of 6 three-pointers and hit 10 of 19 free throw tries.
