Augustana defeats USD women’s tennis team, 6-3

The University of South Dakota women's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to Augustana on Saturday at the Empire Fitness Center in Sioux Falls.

With the loss, the Coyotes' record fell to 18-7 overall and 1-5 in the North Central Conference.

USD's Jenny Lewellen improved to 16-2 on the season by winning at No. 2 singles. She defeated Brittany Gaster of Augustana, 6-3, 6-3. With her win at No. 5 singles, Melanie Rockne moved to 15-10 on the season. Rockne won a 7-5, 6-2 decision over Augustana's Danielle Gilbert. USD also won at No. 2 doubles. The team of Lewellen and Rockne improved to 12-3 on the season by defeating Emily Johnson and Danielle Gilbert of Augustana, 8-1.

5. Melanie Rockne (15-10, So., Yankton), USD, defeated Danielle Gilbert, AC, 7-5, 6-2.

6. Sarah Lamberty, AC, over Ashley Waltman (21-4, Jr., Rapid City), USD, 6-4, 6-2.
