South Dakota Focus looks at proposed refinery
The proposed Hyperion oil refinery for Southeastern South Dakota will be in the spotlight on South Dakota Public Broadcasting Television's SOUTH DAKOTA FOCUS. The program will be televised on Thursday, April 24, at 8 p.m., and with an encore showing at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 27.

The program will include Gov. Mike Rounds and both proponents and opponents of the refinery, proposed for Union County farmland along the I-29 corridor east of Vermillion and north of Elk Point. Guests include:

  • Jason Quam – Save Union County, a group opposing the refinery.

  • Ed Cable – Save Union County.
  • Preston Phillips – representing Hyperion.
  • J.B. Mercer – Citizens for Hyperion.
  • Gov. Rounds.

    The program will include video of the proposed site and comments from citizens of Union County.

    The program will be carried statewide on SDPB Television and live via the Web at SDPB.org. Click on the blue "Live Webcast" announcement for South Dakota Focus (toward the top). The program will be archived on the website by afternoon of the following day for viewing on demand (click on "television" in the leftside menu, then click on "SD Focus" in the leftside menu and follow the links to the program).
