The United Way of Vermillion recently held its annual meeting and elected new officers for 2008-2009.
Deborah Christensen of the Bank of the West was elected board president; Dan Kenton from Pamida was elected vice-president; and Marcia Harnois from USD was elected secretary/treasurer. Former Board President Mary Merrigan will continue to serve on the board as past-president.
Christensen has served on the United Way Board for a number of years. "I am very pleased to have been elected board president," she said. "The United Way of Vermillion Board of Directors is a very dedicated and active board and we are finishing up a very successful 2008 campaign. The entire board is looking forward to an even better campaign in 2009.
A special thank you was offered to Merrigan for her services as the board president for the past two years. Christensen said that "Mary played a big part in the success of the 2008 United Way campaign with her leadership skills and enthusiasm. She was very instrumental in providing structure and direction for the campaign and we are very fortunate to have her on the United Way board."
Jon Robertson, who is leaving the board, was also recognized for his many years of service to the United Way of Vermilion.
"Jon's years of dedication and service to United Way and the community will have a lasting impact on all of us and we are very grateful for his invaluable contributions," said Christensen.
The United Way of Vermillion was started in 1956 and has as its mission to raise funds for eligible non-profit agencies and programs. Its goal in 2008 is to raise $95,000 to assist 19 such agencies and programs.
