"We are just happy to be playing outside. It's been a long winter and the girls are getting sick of hitting and throwing inside, so in that respect we're looking forward to the new season. We have eight of our players back from last season (where we finished with a 38-15 record), and we are still playing in the U 16 age division, so we're hoping for a successful season," said coach Dave Chickering.
"From a coaches standpoint, the first game against other teams certainly gives us a chance to see what we need to work on," he said. "Neither our hitting nor our fielding was real solid, but that is to be expected in your first game. I thought Jenny Bye pitched a very solid first game. Her control was good which shows that she's worked very hard with Ali Truhe (our catcher) over the winter. Chelsea was kind of thrown in to the pitching rotation late, so she hasn't had a real good chance to practice much, but I thought toward the end of the second game, she found her rhythm and I think she's going to be a solid second pitcher for us."
The Stingers' next games will be at the Omaha Quakes Softball Classic this coming weekend in Omaha, NE.
