The youth group of the United Methodist churches of Irene, Viborg and Wakonda will be conducting a "Penny Drive" to raise money for the purchase of anti-malaria bed nets that are distributed by the UN Foundation through the Nothing But Nets campaign. They will kick off their drive Sunday, April 13 and finalize the effort on June 22 with a 30-hour famine/fast.
If you wish to add pennies to this cause, there will be collection jugs in each Methodist church and also in First Premier Bank in Wakonda, Wells Fargo banks in Irene and Viborg and the Merchants State Bank in Viborg.
Nothing But Nets is a grassroots campaign to save lives by preventing malaria, a leading killer of children in Africa. The UN Foundation has now partnered with groups as diverse as National Basketball Association's NBA Cares, The People of the United Methodist Church and Sports Illustrated to bring Nothing But Nets to the American public.
