New â??Buy Fresh, Buy Localâ? chapter starting in South Dakota Meeting will be held in Vermillion The South Dakota Specialty Producers Association will host a series of meetings to start a â??Buy Fresh, Buy Localâ? chapter in South Dakota. The next meeting of the campaign will be held at 7 p.m. May 13 at the Minnehaha County Administration building, 415 N. Dakota Ave., Sioux Falls. Participants will meet on the second floor in the County Commission meeting room. Additional meetings will be held on the following dates: â?¢ 7 p.m. May 20, Brown County Courthouse, Aberdeen, in the employee lounge â?¢ 7 p.m. May 29, Vermillion, with the location to be announced A meeting in Huron is planned but no time or date is set. Chris Zdorovtsov, South Dakota Cooperative Extension horticulture educator for Minnehaha County, said the campaign makes sense to South Dakotans. â??This is a relevant project for everyone from a local grower or rancher, to a consumer that is seeking food products they can purchase in their communities,â? said Zdorovtsov. â??With the increased costs of food in grocery stores, this is an important topic, and we are inviting anyone that wants to be involved to attend the meetings.â? The Buy Fresh, Buy Local campaign works to help local food producers brand their food and to help consumers find markets where they can buy locally produced foods. In addition to the South Dakota Specialty Producers Association, the South Dakota Cooperative Extension Service, The Co-op Natural Foods Cooperative of Sioux Falls and the farmers market associations of Sioux Falls, Brookings and Vermillion have partnered in the effort to start the South Dakota chapter.
