St. James Marketplace starts another year The schedule is set for 2008 at the St. James Marketplace in St. James, NE, just over the hill, north of Hwy. 12 in northern Cedar County. The first opening weekend for the St. James Five, Mary Rose Pinkelman, Violet Pinkelman, Louise Guy, Jeanette Pinkelman and Vickie Koch, is Saturday and Sunday, May 3 and 4 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Friendship soup, two choices of homemade pies baked in the Marketplace kitchen and drinks for $6 will be served all day, both days. The opening weekend entertainment at 7 p.m. on Saturday will be local comedian Janet Eckmann of Bloomfield, who will portray the character ��?Edith Ann� from the 1970s hit television comedy hour, Laugh In. The founding mothers of the Marketplace have been operating the rural gathering spot since May of 2001. They offer area vendors a place to market their crafts and baked goods on weekends from May until December. This year��?s closing date is Dec. 6. Throughout the season, the ladies offer monthly festivities bringing in entertainment and speakers. This year��?s schedule includes a scavenger hunt on June 7. Their excellence was noted last fall with awards from the Nebraska Department of Tourism and the Nebraska Historical Society.
