Two installation art exhibitions open at USD

Two installation art exhibitions open at USD The University Art Galleries at The University of South Dakota will present two installation art exhibitions. The exhibits open Thursday, May 14 and run through Tuesday, June 3 in the Main Gallery of the Warren M. Lee Center for the Fine Arts. A public reception is scheduled for Sunday, May 18, from 3-5 p.m. â??Recycled Imagesâ? is an installation art work by USD alum Shannon Sargent, who is registrar/ preparator at the Sioux City Art Center. The show is a mixed media installation that reprises content and perspectives from past works created by the artist. This review of the past has resulted in the reconstruction of ideas and images in a recycling process. The pieces in the installation are large and consist of found objects, constructed forms and assembled murals. â??Residual Images,â? meanwhile, is a collaborative installation created by Sargent and his former instructor, John Bowitz, chair of the Morningside College Art Department. This exhibition investigates the cooperative process that is common in installation art. The installation activates its space through the interaction between pieces and the participation of viewers. According to Bowitz, the show is a record of a visual conversation between two artists. Sargent says that the installation was a â??brain expanding experience that expanded his artistic vision.â? The Main Gallery in the Warren M. Lee Center for the Fine Arts is open free of charge to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and from 1-5 p.m. on weekends. Tours and special showings during non-public hours are available upon request. For more information about this exhibition, please contact The University of South Dakota Art Galleries Director John A.
