1st Dakota Wooden Bat action will begin June 27 By: Parker Knox
Sports Writer American Legion tournament baseball will return to Vermillion next week when one bracket of the first and second rounds of the 1st Dakota Wooden Bat Classic is played at Prentis Park. Vermillion Post 1 will face off against Salem at 11 a.m. Friday, June 27, followed by Harrisburg against Stillwater, MN, at 2 p.m. The losers will play at 5 p.m. and the winners at 8 p.m. in semifinal round play. Meanwhile at Riverside Park in Yankton, host 1st Dakota Post 12 will oppose Hartington at 11 a.m., then Freeman tackles Chamberlain at 2 p.m. Subsequent games there will also be at 5 and 8 p.m. The tournament will play out to all eight places similar to a state basketball tournament. The seventh-, fifth- and third-place games Saturday will be in Yankton at 10 a.m., 1 and 4 p.m., respectively, followed by the championship contest at 7 p.m. Games will be nine innings in length with a 10-run rule applying after seven innings and a 15-run rule taking effect after five innings.
