All school reunion will be part of Vermillion Sesquicentennial

All school reunion will be part of Vermillion Sesquicentennial When you think of Vermillion, the Vermillion Public Schools were a significant part of our young lives. So much of what shaped, nurtured and strengthened us; provided us with a multitude of lessons, experiences and relationships, was contained in this relatively small town. Many of us left, moved to other towns, cities and states, but no matter where we went in life … it was who we had beside us. The All School Reunion is your opportunity to once again walk Main Street and enter VHS with friends who were beside you in your youth and can be beside you once again. This event will be a significant part of the Vermillion Sesquicentennial Celebr-ation August 6-9, 2009. After contacting several other schools that had previously done All School Reunions, the most important? advice they gave, no matter what their size, was that the All School? Reunion committee absolutely should not try to coordinate the reunions for each individual class.?  Therefore, each class is responsible for contacting their own classmates regarding any planned individual class events and the venue for those gatherings. It is recommended that the www.vermilliontanagers.com website be used for keeping classmates up to date if a specific class plans to meet. The All School Reunion Committee will focus on creating a general venue and framework for each individual class to organize their own mini-reunions during this same time frame, and encourage them to do so.?  Each class will be responsible for their own events outside of the two activities listed here. Friday reception: Friday Afternoon Aug. 7, 2009, 1-5 p.m. This will be a time for those attending the Reunion to â??check inâ?. Attendees will be able to leave messages for friends, where they are staying, a number where they can be reached, a place to meet, etc. Saturday night dance: The band, â??Something Newâ?, is a confirmed booking for August 8, 2009, to play from 8 p.m. to midnight. They play 50â??s through 80â??s music, a ? little something for everyone! Concessions: The Vermi-llion High School Show Choir â??Rhythm in Redâ? will be hosting a refreshment area at both the Friday afternoon reception and Saturday evening dance. Rhythm in Red is a musical group of VHS students and dedicated parents working to raise funds. These students recently (March 2008) placed second in competition in Sioux City, IA. Housing: Reservations can be made at local/surrounding motels by calling directly no sooner than one year in advance. We are told reservations MAY (not guaranteed) be made sooner by calling 1-800 numbers. Alumni may need to look at reservations in Yankton, Sioux City, Elk Point, Beresford, etc. We are working with USD Housing to accommodate overflow housing needs in on campus residence halls. USD will book these rooms directly and details will be forthcoming as soon as available. General chair of the All School Reunion is Carol Jorgenson Ehlers, VHS Class of 1965 â?? email carol1601@iw.net.
