Anderson is USD Employee of Month Linda Anderson, senior secretary for Academic Advising at The University of South Dakota, was named June 2008 Career Services Employee of the Month. ?I?m very fortunate to work with such great people, admitted Anderson, who thanked coworkers and friends during a reception in her honor at Room 118 in Old Main on USD?s campus. ?This award means a lot and I really appreciate it, she told those in attendance. Nominated for the award by the entire Academic Advising staff at USD, including supervisor Lucky Huber, Anderson was cited for her hard work as well as keeping the department running smoothly while going above and beyond the call of duty. ?Linda?s dedication to service is an ever present example to us all, detailed Margie Rostyne, academic advisor and supplemental instruction coordinator, in a nomination letter submitted by Academic Advising. ?Beyond her skills and abilities as a co-worker, it would be remiss not to point out the importance of Linda?s attitude and character that reflects our staff?s objective of helping students succeed at The University of South Dakota. A native of Vermillion, and a graduate of Vermillion High School, Anderson began working for USD in the Office of Admissions 16 years ago. After six years, Anderson transitioned to Academic Advising where she has spent the past decade doing everything from coordinating the department?s budget to assisting students with transfer requests. ?No two days are really the same, mentioned Anderson, who lives in rural Vermillion with her husband, Richard. ?We tend to see a lot of at-risk students, so I feel that when they leave our office they have more of a handle on their academic career. To get kids going in the right direction and leave our office with some hope is very rewarding, she added. ?It?s definitely a joy to work with the kids, they keep me young.
