Haulin 'em in Young people from the Vermillion community spent a windswept afternoon Monday taking part in a signature sport of summer ? fishing at the second annual fishing derby, hosted by the Vermillion Parks and Recreation Department at The Bluffs Golf Course. Above left, Lexy Walton, 6, daughter of Ryan and Candy Walton, Vermillion, had no trouble hauling in one tiny fish after the other, thanks to the assistance of her grandfather, Joe Thompson, of Hastings, NE. Displaying one of the biggest fish caught from the golf course water hazard is Blake Holden, 7. In contrast, Casy Druecker, standing next to Blake, displays one of the tiniest catches of the day. Below left, Colton Kniffen, 3, son of Brian and Amy Kniffen of Vermillion, may be a bit too young to understand what the sport of fishing is all about, but was one of the best dressed fisherman at the derby. Lunch was provided to participants by Jones? Food Center. (Photos by David Lias)
