Ice cream social planned June 19 The members of the Clay County Historical Society will be having their 41st annual ice cream social and lawn party on Thursday, June 19. The event will take place on the lawn of the Austin-Whittemore house at 15 Austin St. in Vermillion. The committee will serve a lovely variety of pies, cakes and ice cream. This year we will be honoring the memory of Mary Geffre Johnson, by using her special tavern recipe. Serving will begin at 5 p.m. Special entertainment for the evening will be provided by Chuck Schwartz. In case of rain, the event will move to the Eagles Club at 114 W. Main in Vermillion.
