Lorenz will receive NCC volunteer honor Dave Lorenz of The University of South Dakota has been selected to receive the Noel Olson Volunteer of the Year Award from the North Central Conference. The league has announced the eight award recipients who will be recognized at the NCC Celebration Dinner on Saturday, June 21 at the Ramkota Hotel in Sioux Falls. Along with Lorenz, the other award recipients will include Steve Hammer, Diane and Carl Schmitt, St. Cloud State University; Dr. Scott and Laura Stevens, Minnesota State University; Dr. Mike Walsh, University of Nebraska-Omaha; and Dave Walter, University of Minnesota Duluth. The league presents the volunteer award in recognition of individuals who have made significant contributions to the NCC. Award recipients are determined by vote of the institutional representatives at each of the seven member institutions. A longtime dean of students, Lorenz serves as the athletic academic advisor at USD. With more than 30 years of service to the campus, he has had a significant impact on university students. In terms of his contributions to the USD Athletics Department, he helped create USDâ�?�?s Coyote Crazies and the U-Dance, a popular performing group at Coyote athletic events. After leaving the dean of students job in 2005, Lorenz became USDâ�?�?s athletic academic advisor in which he provides academic and emotional support to student-athletes. Beyond his work as an advisor, Lorenz freely gives his time by volunteering as a public address announcer, which he has done for better than a decade. He has been a regular volunteer at USD home track events, serving as a timer, among other duties.
