Silver Threads By Crystal McGuire, director
Vermillion Senior Services Center
320 W. Main St., Vermillion 57069 What fun ? a pot luck and bingo held in May with fun foods to choose from and of course, prizes for bingo. We are continuing our Tuesday morning Line Dancing at 9:30 a.m. and Hair Pin Lace Crochet on Thursdays at 2:30 p.m. (work at your own pace). June 5 at 9:15 a.m. we will be starting our morning walks around the neighborhood (weather permitting). Several members just started a new board puzzle, very colorful but a little on the difficult level. Books, magazines and puzzles are always available for members to exchange with. Great job seniors with the coupon fundraiser recently held in May for all of the items you purchased. ? Special thanks to Hy-Vee and Ron Avery, store director for the contribution to the senior center. The center appreciates your support!? ? ? ? A speaker visited the members on June 4 about the Reverse Home Mortgages, a new financing option available for senior home owners. It was discussed how to use the investment in your home to your advantage. Could you dress and style up a toy doll? The center has picked up a few dolls and some clothing from the Civic Council that are in need of a fashion statement. If this is something you would enjoy doing, stop in, pick out a doll and bring it back looking renewed and better than ever. Did you know that Dakota Senior Meals, an outside agency that prepares and serves meals at the center also prepares meals for 20-28 home delivered meals and approximately 30 meals to Town Square apartments. Thank you to the many volunteers that deliver these meals every Monday thru Friday. ? ? ? Coming events at the Senior Center include Pancake Sunday on June 8 beginning at 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sid, Allen, Joe, and Marion and their many helpers will be cooking and serving the best pancakes in town with sausages, juice and coffee.? Plan to come and support the center. Also, plan to attend the Brat and Hamburger Cookout on July 2 serving 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. Tickets are available at 320 W Main for $7.50 each and must be purchased in advance.? The menu also includes salad, baked beans and ice cream. ? We still need a few volunteers for this event, call the center if willing to help. Your support, whether monetary, volunteer (helping with fundraisers, teaching computers, updating the Web page, mowing the lawn, cleaning the gutters, landscaping, gardening, raking, repair person, etc.) or donations of flowers for the garden, donuts for morning coffee, toilet paper, hand soap,? ? ? any and all support will be greatly appreciated.? We are also looking for individuals interested in participating on our executive board and helping with community awareness.? Have some grant writing experience or be available to help us with the development of our new Web page, just stop by and introduce yourself. Be watching for the next ?Silver Threads.
