This Week in Greysox Baseball By: Joe 'MoJo' Reiser The Vermillion Greysox took on a veteran Renner/New Castle team on Sunday, June 8 in a State Line League clash in Renner. The Greysox came out on the short end of a 13-4 trip to the proverbial woodshed. Kevin Bliel was the starting pitcher for the Greysox. The ageless wonders from Renner/New Castle pounded out numerous hits and had an aggressive assault on the Greysox pitching staff. Bliel gave way to eventual losing pitcher Brett Mockler in the third inning. ?They (Renner/ New Castle) hit the ball really well and we really were not prepared for the game, said manager Mark Clark. ?I would like to forget that game all together, lamented Greysox second baseman Aaron Baedke.? On the offense side of things for the Sox, Brandon White had two hits and a two run home run to lead the anemic Greysox assault and was named ?Budlight Player of the Game. Ryan Baedke had a double followed by Devin Christianson and Ben Oberle each having a single. Tom Schlimgin was the winning pitcher for Renner/ New Castle.? The Greysox ran their record to 5-5 for the season. The Sox hope to right the ship in their next battle royal with next door neighbor Elk Point. That game will be taking place on June 11 as this paper is being printed. You can catch the results in next week?s edition. The Greysox travel to Garretson for a State Line League clash on Father?s Day June 15. I hope to see you all out at the ball park getting some fresh air and enjoying some local baseball.
