Today’s peacmaking cancelled due to conflict

Today's peacmaking cancelled due to conflict Writer at Large By: Bob Karolevitz Daughter Jill subscribes to Charley Najachtâ??s Custer County Chronicle which has a column called â??From the Internetâ? which is a dandy way to utilize the occasional good stuff turned out by e-mail. I swore Iâ??d never use the material in my columns unless I was hard up for ideas because you never know how many people have already seen it. Well, this is the time because Iâ??m fresh out of subject matter! Several weeks ago Najacht published one of the funnier ones collected by an anonymous purveyor of bon mots. It was attributed to church ladies whose typewriters went awry preparing the weekly bulletins: â?¢ The Fasting & Prayer Conference includes meals. â?¢ The sermon this morning: â??Jesus Walks on the Water.â? The sermon tonight: â??Searching for Jesus.â? â?¢ Our youth basketball team is back in action Wednesday at 8 p.m. in the recreation hall. Come out and watch us kill Christ the King. â?¢ Ladies, donâ??t forget the rummage sale. Itâ??s a chance to get rid of those things not worth keeping around the house. Bring your husbands. â?¢ The peacemaking meeting scheduled for today has been cancelled due to a conflict. â?¢ Remember in prayer the many who are sick of our community. Smile at someone who is hard to love. Say â??Helloâ? to someone who doesnâ??t care much about you. â?¢ Donâ??t let worry kill you off â?? let the church help. â?¢ Miss Charlene Mason sang â??I will not pass this way again,â? giving obvious pleasure to the congregation. â?¢ For those of you who have children and donâ??t know it, we have a nursery downstairs. â?¢ The rector will preach his farewell message, after which the choir will sing: Break Forth Into Joy. â?¢ Irving Benson and Jessie Carter were married on Oct. 24, in the church. So ends a friendship that began in their school days. â?¢ At the evening service tonight, the sermon topic will be: â??What is Hell?â? Come early and listen to our choir practice. â?¢ Eight new choir robes are currently needed due to the addition of several new members and to the deterioration of the old ones. â?¢ Scouts are saving aluminum cans, bottles and other items to be recycled. Proceeds will be used to cripple children. â?¢ Please place your donations in the envelopes along with the deceased person you want to remember. â?¢ The church will host an evening of fine dining, super entertainment and gracious hostility. â?¢ Potluck supper Sunday at 5 p.m. Prayer and medication to follow â?¢ The ladies of the church have cast off clothing of every kind. They may be seen in the basement on Friday afternoon. â?¢ This evening at 7 p.m. there will be a hymn singing in the park across from the church. Bring a blanket and come prepared to sin. â?¢ Ladies Bible Study will be held Thursday morning at 10 a.m. All ladies are invited to lunch in the Fellowship Hall after the B.S. is done. â?¢ Low Self Esteem Support Group will meet Thursday at 7 p.m. Please use the back door. â?¢ Weight Watchers will meet at 7 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church. Please use the large double door at the side entrance. â?¢ The associate minister unveiled the churchâ??s new tithing campaign slogan last Sunday: â??I Upped My Pledge â?? Up Yours.â? ?© 2008 Robert F. Karolevitz
