Vermillion Blaze off to a winning start Vermillion U-14 Blaze started their league play May 27 in Sioux Falls. They took on Sioux Falls Synergy in their first game. Emily McClelland was the winning pitcher. Carlee Sorensen hit two singles, Sami Girard, Lizzy Bye, Lexi Regnerus and McClelland all got one hit each. Beth Szymonski hit a double and Claire Jones got on base and scored three times. The Blaze won the game 15-9. In their second game they took on the tough Fusion Orange team out of Sioux Falls. It was 40 degrees and raining. They played four innings and ended up in a tie, 3-3. Girard, Bye and Szymonski were the three Blaze players to score. Bye pitched and had three strike outs. Vermillion U-14 Blaze had two league games in Sioux Falls on Tuesday, June 3. The Blaze went up against Brandon Valley Ice and the second game was against the Brandon Valley Gators. The first game was a nail biter. The game went the complete seven innings with the Blaze up by one going into the bottom of the seventh. The Ice got three players on base before they got two outs. The Ice ended up scoring one before the third out to tie the game. Sorensen and Courtney Johnson were the two Blaze players to score. Bye pitched, walking no one and striking out eight. In the second game against the Gators, the score was 13 to 6 with the Blaze winning. McClelland was the winning pitcher with only three walks. The Blazeâ�?�?s hitting was great. Sorensen, Jones, Szymonski, Bye, Mariah Dodson, Bailey Carlson, Girard and Johnson all got singles. Bye, along with her single, also hit a homerun. Jones, Girard, Bye and Carlson all scored twice during the game. Johnson, Ellen Brown, Szymonski, McClelland and Dodson all scored once. The Vermillion Blaze will have a home game July 1 against Sioux Falls Fury.
