VLP poetry slam set for June 26 The Vermillion Literary Project is hosting a poetry reading and poetry slam on Thursday, June 26 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Coffee Shop Gallery, which is located in downtown Vermillion. The poetry reading will feature award-winning writer, Cour-tney Huse-Wika. Huse-Wika is a teacher and writer who received her Ph.D. from The University of South Dakota in 2008. Her creative work has appeared or is scheduled to appear in several publications, including Backwards City Review, Paddlefish and The MacG-uffin. She has also written a novella This Is What Women Know of Love, and she was a semifinalist in the 2008 Amazon Breakthrough Nov-el Award. An avid fan of adolescent fiction, Huse-Wika currently lives in South Dakota. She also writes literature reviews for Voices of Youth Advocates, a national magazine. Her reading will be followed by a poetry slam, which is open to anyone. Poets planning to slam should bring three poems. Prizes will be awarded to slam winners.
