4H?ers serve as counselors Three members of the Meckling Livestock 4-H Club of Clay Country served as counselors for a week this summer for 4-H camp at Camp Lakodia located on Lake Herman in Madison. Megan Bottolfson, Kelsy Fallan and Ashley Ouellette spent June 8-13 working on projects such as rockets, photography and cosmetics, Lifeguarding and supervising canoeing and generally entertaining 300 campers from age 8-12 at ?Kamp KAOS. Ashley said, ?It was great, being the counselor instead of the camper! I?d definitely do it again. The counselors underwent an initial 12 hour training which included information on basic camp skills, how to work with younger youth, camp protocol and policies, and specific training related to campfire, ceremonies, songs, skits, and music and their important role at camp. ?I liked getting to know the kids and playing games with them, Megan said. During this training and during the camp they met with many extension educators, which was a great networking opportunity for the counselors. They made many new friends among the other eight counselors that they stay in contact with. Kelsy said, ?I liked the counselors and how we are staying in touch. The three hope to be able to be counselors again next year.
