Families may help spruce up State Fairgrounds

Families may help spruce up State Fairgrounds Community Service is just one of the many ways 4-H makes a difference in their community, county and state. This summer we have an excellent opportunity for those same 4-H youth and families to give back to the program. The 4-H State Fair facilities have been used by generations of families and weâ??re asking for help to spruce them up. This year some buildings and facilities on the State Fairgrounds have been identified to paint and fix up. And we are asking for help from all counties throughout the state. 3 Ways You Can Help: 1. Adult and youth volunteers are needed to help on the State Fairgrounds in Huron July 14-16. If volunteers can be in Huron for a small amount of time or a large amount, any time is needed and appreciated. Volunteers do not have to bring painting supplies, those things will be furnished. Areas identified for 2008 sprucing up days: â?¢ Paint around outside parameter of 4-H sheep pens â?? paint barn red. â?¢ Fix broken gates in 4-H sheep pen area. â?¢ Paint the 4-H livestock complex show ring â?? white. â?¢ Paint the wash rack by the 4-H beef barn â?? white. â?¢ Paint tack board where 4-H livestock show listings are posted â?? white. â?¢ Stain sitting benches in front of Clover Hall â?? 6. â?¢ Plant a tree in one of the bench areas in front of Clover Hall. â?¢ Paint back of 4-H stage. â?¢ Paint the beef stalling barns and re-number. â?¢ Paint barn stall signs and county signs. â?¢ Paint Livestock Complex Office â?? barn red. â?¢ Paint the 4-H dairy barn wash rack â?? clover green. â?¢ Paint east side of Clover Hall. 2. Donations of money to cover the cost of paint, stain and supplies for the spruce up days. Attached is a donation sheet for clubs, leaders associations or individuals to buy supplies. Below is an estimate of costs for the areas that have been identified to spruce up for 2008. Donations Needed â?¢ $1,000 for paint and supplies. â?¢ $50 for stain for six benches. â?¢ $150 for tree for Clover Hall area. â?¢ $250 for clovers, barn stall signs and county signs in beef livestock areas. 3. Build and paint 4-H clovers at home. The livestock facilities need new wooden clovers. Contact Stacy Hadrick for specific specs for the clovers. You can construct them in your county and the state will find a way to transport them to Huron. All persons, 4-H Clubs and groups who donate time and money to the 2008 Spruce Up Campaign will be recognized with their name on a plaque that will hang in Clover Hall and the list of donors will be listed in the 2009 State Fair 4-H Book. Letâ??s help put a fresh face on the 4-H facilities at the State Fairgrounds. Get a group together to give back to the 4-H program.
