Gebhart, Haines awarded NCAA scholarships Stephanie Gebhart and Colte Haines, of The University of South Dakota track and field team, have each been awarded a postgraduate scholarship by the NCAA. They are the fourth and fifth Coyote student-athletes to earn a NCAA postgraduate scholarship this year. The NCAA annually awards 174 postgraduate scholarships. They award 58 scholarships (29 male, 29 female) at the conclusion the fall, winter and spring seasons. Gebhart and Haines join Katie Freeman (soccer), Emilie Kluth (womenâ�?�?s swimming and diving) and Jill Smolczyk (womenâ�?�?s swimming and diving) as Coyote athletes who have earned the postgraduate scholarship. The five scholarships awarded this year are the highest number earned in one year at USD. Gebhart (Sr., Elkton) was recently named to the Academic All-American second team. This past year, she was named to the academic all-district team and the Academic All-NCC womenâ�?�?s track and field/cross country squad. During her career at USD she set a school record by earning 21 All-American honors. As a senior, Gebhart earned six All-American honors, including three as she led the womenâ�?�?s track and field team to a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championship. At the outdoor nationals, Gebhart was third in the womenâ�?�?s 400-meter dash with a clocking of :54.65. In addition, she led the 4×100-meter relay to a third-place finish and ran a :53.9 split in the anchor leg as the 4×400-meter relay took fourth at nationals. In March, Gebhart led the Coyotes to sixth-place at the NCAA Division II Womenâ�?�?s Indoor Track and Field Championship. At the indoor nationals, she was sixth in the 400-meter dash and ran on the second-place medley relay and fifth place 4×400-meter relay. Throughout her career, she led USD to six NCC track and field titles (four outdoor, two indoor), including USDâ�?�?s fifth-straight outdoor league championship this spring. A two-time league MVP, she owns the state collegiate mark (:53.59) in the womenâ�?�?s 400-meter dash. Gebhart graduated with a 3.55 GPA in psychology. Haines, who graduated with a 3.89 GPA in mathematics and computer science, was named to the Academic All-American third team for the second-straight season this year. He also was selected to the academic all-district team for the second consecutive season. He was a third team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American in 2007. In May, he was selected to the NCC Academic All-NCC menâ�?�?s track and field/cross country squad for the third-straight year. Haines (Sr., White Lake) won the triple jump (46â�?�?08.25) and was fifth in the long jump (22â�?�?05.75) as he led the Coyotes to a second-place finish at the 2008 NCC Outdoor Championship.
