Peer support group meets Aug. 2 Prairie Freedom Center for Independent Living continues to sponsor a peer support group for people with disabilities. The next meeting, which is open to the public, will be held on Aug. 20, at 1 p.m., at the Town Square Apartments Community Room (1st Floor), 507 West Main Street, Vermillion. Persons with disabilities are encouraged to attend. Peer support assists people by enhancing their ability to live independently. The goals of this group are empowerment, disability sensitivity, information and resources to increase independence, advocacy, and control over the decisions and choices that affect your life. Peer support is the opportunity to meet other people with disabilities, share information related to disabilities, and obtain understanding, guidance, and encouragement from people with similar experiences. Peer support also provides information about resources and various social activities that are available in the community.
