Post 1?s rally falls
short against Yankton By Parker Knox
Sports Writer No lead is safe in baseball.? Vermillion proved that in American Legion? play at Yankton last week, but unfortunately for Post 1, a monumental rally didn't result in a victory. In the opener of a doubleheader, Post 1 trailed 8-0 at one point and was still behind 11-3 coming to bat in the final inning. Vermillion made Yankton squirm, scoring seven runs to get to within 11-10, but thatâ??s the way the game ended. Despite losing, Post 1 outhit Yankton, 10-9. Kyle Olsen, Reid Meierkort, Andrew Nemec and J.R. Moore had two hits each, and Sam McBride and Andrew Eidem each contributed a hit. Moore took the loss on the mound. The nightcap of the twinbill was not nearly so dramatic. Yankton, which later in the week won its pool and reached the semifinals of the 48-team Gopher Classic in the Twin Cities area, won by a 14-3 count with Brandon Womack taking the pitching loss. .Cory Taggart and Womack had two hits apiece at the plate with Jason Rasmussen, Tyler Johnson and Grant Lueders each registering a base hit.
