RTEC sets safety
seminar for truck drivers Whether you��?ve been driving a truck for years or you��?re relatively new to the truck driving world, you��?ll benefit from a safety seminar, ��?Loads, Logbooks, Legal Weights & More,� to be held at the Regional Technical Education Center (RTEC) from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 19. The safety seminar, which will be presented by the South Dakota Highway Patrol, will provide valuable insights that can help truck drivers at inspection time. The safety seminar schedule includes the following presentations: 8-9 a.m. ��? Load Securement ��? learn to properly secure loads for van trailers, flatbeds, crushed cars, log haulers, concrete pipe and containers. 9:30-10:30 a.m. ��? Log Book Rules and Regulations ��? learn more about the 11- 14- and 70-hour rules and how to obtain a legal 10-hour rest. 11 a.m.-noon ��? How to Calculate Legal Weight ��? practice calculating examples of different vehicle configurations. Noon-1 p.m. ��? Lunch Break (to be provided on-site). 1:15-1:45 p.m. ��? Pre- and Post-Trip Inspections ��? discover the items drivers should inspect during the before and after trip checks. 2-2:30 p.m. ��? What Types of Inspections We Do and What to Expect ��? find out how to be more prepared for roadside inspections as you find out exactly what highway patrol officers check for. RTEC is charging a $25 fee to attend this one-day safety seminar. The fee includes refreshments and lunch, which will be provided on-site at 1200 W. 21st St. in Yankton.
