Mahowald honored with
ASCA coaching excellence award Jason Mahowald, head coach of The University of South Dakota swimming and diving team, has been named one of the outstanding coaches for the 2008 season by the American Swimming Coaches Association (ASCA). Mahowald was named to the 2008 ASCA Awards of Excellence list. The ASCA Awards of Excellences are bestowed annually to the coaches who have swimmers reach the top-eight at various national championship-level meets. The meets for 2008 included: the 2008 NCAA Division I, II and III Championships, the 2008 NAIA Champions, and the 2008 USA Olympic Team Trials in Swimming. This marks the second time Mahowald has received the honor as he was named one of the outstanding coaches in the 2007 season by the ASCA. Mahowald begins his fourth season as the head swimming and diving coach for the men��?s and women��?s programs at The University of South Dakota. Last season Leita Rolfe and Megan Gordon earned All-American honors and the team finished 10th in the team standings at the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships while Jill Smolczyk was named NCAA Division II Women��?s Diver of the Year. During Mahowald��?s tenure, the Coyote swimming and diving teams have produced 21 All-Americans.
