Akron, IA will host annual
scarecrow festival Sept. 20 The Friendship & Service Club of Akron, IA will host its eighth annual Scarecrow Festival and Contest in the Akron City Park on Saturday, Sept. 20. The event opens to the public at 10 a.m. and will last until approximately 5 p.m. A number of activities for all ages are being planned, but primary to the event is the celebration of scarecrows. According to the Friendship & Service Club, everyone is welcome to create a scarecrow and enter it into a contest. At 2 p.m., the scarecrows will be sold at auction. At last year��?s event, there were over 60 entries and one scarecrow sold for $135. The day will include over 30 crafters, and offer kids��? games, a petting zoo, a jumping cage, cow-pie lottery, a barbershop quartet and other entertainment and a chain saw artist. Brats, home-made pies, funnel cakes and more will be served.
