Coyote volleyball earns two wins The University of South Dakota volleyball team started off the 2008 season in style with two wins at the Hampton University Tournament held in Hampton, VA on Aug. 29. The Coyotes are 2-0 on the season after they picked up a 3-2 win over Wofford College (Spartanburg, SC) and then cruised to a 3-1 victory over Delaware State University (Dover, DE). In the first match against Wofford College, the Coyotes started off winning the first game 25-16.�? The Terriers however stole the next two games 20-25 and 15-25. USD then went on to win the next two games 25-20 and 15-9.�? Leading the way was Kathleen Hruska (RS, 6-3, Sr., Sioux Falls) with 13 kills. Heather Hult (MB, 6-2, Sr., Davis) was right behind her pounding down 12 kills while having a .385 hitting percentage. Gina Baldwin (S, 5-11, R Jr., Mitchell) set up the hitters as she recorded 34 set assists. Leading the Coyotes on defense in the first match was Amber Kobus (L, 5-5, Sr. Columbus, NE) with 28 digs. In the second match of the day, against Delaware State University, USD again won the first game by a score of 25-15 before dropping the next game 17-25.�? South Dakota battled back and went on to win the next two by scores of 25-18 and 25-22. Hruska led the offense with 13 kills and zero errors for a .361 hitting percentage.�? Hult was second on the team with 11 kills while Laura Slagter (OH, 6-1, Sr., Roseville, MN) added 10. Baldwin had 31 set assists while Kobus had 17 digs.
