Coyotes open 2008-09
by splitting two matches The University of South Dakota women��?s tennis team split two matches to open the 2008-09 season Saturday in Storm Lake, IA. The Coyotes (1-1) beat Buena Vista University, 8-1 but lost to Cornell College, 5-4. In the 8-1 win over BVU, the Coyotes swept all three doubles matches. Shadi Soloyman (Fr., New York, Ontario, Canada) and Isabel Nunez (Fr., Oakville, Ontario, Canada) teamed up for an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles for USD, while Janea Hagen (So., Bellevue, NE) and Ashley Waltman (Sr., Rapid City) partnered up for an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles. The Coyotes won No. 3 doubles by default. Soloyman, Nunez, Hagen and Waltman won singles matches for USD. The Coyotes won No. 6 singles by default. Waltman finished 2-0 in singles on the day for USD. In the loss to Cornell, the Coyotes got singles wins from Rijalda Zejnic (Jr., Hamilton, Ontario, Canada), Nunez, Melanie Rockne (Jr., Yankton) and Waltman. Cornell won all three doubles matches. USD is scheduled to resume action on Friday, Sept. 26 when it competes at the Lloyd Stockstad Fall Invitational in Des Moines, IA.
