Coyotes reach 11-0
with two more sweeps The University of South Dakota volleyball team continued its red-hot start to the 2008 season with home sweeps of the University of Minnesota-Crookston and St. Cloud State University Saturday at the DakotaDome in Vermillion. The Coyotes, who improved to 11-0 under first-year head coach Matt Houk with the two victories, beat Minnesota-Crookston by scores of 25-13, 25-12 and 25-14, and followed that with a 25-19, 25-20, 27-25 win over St. Cloud State. With the two wins, the Coyotes have swept six straight opponents. In the sweep of UMC, the Coyotes were led by Heather Hult (Sr., Norfolk, NE), who had 10 kills and hit .526 for the match. Kathleen Hruska (Sr., Sioux Falls) and Kristen Kritenbrink (So., Gretna, NE) added seven kills each. USD hit .167 as a team compared to .000 for the Golden Eagles, who fell to 0-9 on the season. Gina Baldwin (RJr., Mitchell) had 26 set assists for the Coyotes to go with three service aces. Amber Kobus (Sr., Columbus, NE) continued her strong defensive play with a match-high 16 digs in addition to recording a match-high five service aces.�? Laura Slagter (Sr., Roseville, MN) added 11 digs and Baldwin six for USD. The Coyotes finished with 12 service aces, compared to none for UMC. The Coyotes also got two block assists each from Hult and Kritenbrink. In the sweep over SCSU, Hruska had a big match with 16 kills. Hult continued to be efficient offensively with 10 kills and a .444 hitting percentage.�? Slagter added nine kills for USD, which made a big rally late in game three to secure the sweep. Kobus had 24 digs, while Slagter and Baldwin had 10 each. Baldwin also had 34 set assists. Slagter, Hruska, and Gabi Jarchow (Sr., Lincoln, NE) finished with two service aces each. The Coyotes hit .174 as a team, compared to .083 for SCSU, which dropped to 2-6 on the year.
