Plain Talk By David Lias Plain Talk If youâ�?�?re a lover of finely grilled barbecue, talented live musicians and the beauty of classic cars, you could not find a better time to be in Vermillion than Friday and Saturday, Sept. 5-6. Vermillionâ�?�?s Ribs, Rods & Rock â�?�?n Roll, which combines a state barbecue championship, a classic car show and performances by several rock and blues musicians, will officially get underway Friday evening. A beer garden and food vending will be open in downtown Vermillion from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. Friday. There will be a host of other events occurring simultaneously. From 5 to 10 p.m. Friday, a Ribs Fest barbecue will be served, featuring the grilled recipes of Famous Daveâ�?�?s, Hog Wild BBQ, Boss Hog BBQ, Kirkâ�?�?s BBQ and Jackâ�?�?s Dakota Grill. Friday is also Motorcycle and Classic Car Cruiser Night, from 5 to 9 p.m. A BBQ cooking demonstration will be held Friday from6 to 7 p.m., featuring BBQ expert Roger Wagner who has been featured on The Food Network. Musical offerings Friday include a special performance by Kayla Marie from 6 to 7 p.m., followed by The Golden Bubbles from 7 to 8:30 p.m., and Kickback from 8:30 to 10 p.m. The night will conclude with a street dance from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. to the music of the popular band Judd Hoos. At 9 a.m. Saturday, registration and breakfast is scheduled for participants in the Eagles Club Motorcycle Fun Run. The bikers will take off at 10 a.m. and return at 2 p.m. Registration for the Classic Car Show and Shine will take place from 10 a.m. to noon. The South Dakota National Guard will set up a family entertainment area in downtown Saturday, which will be available from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. At the same time, the Rib Fest BBQ and beer garden will open. The official barbecue judging is scheduled for noon to 2 p.m., accompanied by the music of Narrative Feed. The Classic Car Show and Shine will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Music will be provided from 2 to 4 p.m. by Poker Alice. Peopleâ�?�?s choice barbecue judging will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. The two day celebration will end with the music of T. Wilson King from 4 to 6 p.m., and a concert featuring the band Hyentyte from 6 to 8 p.m.
