Tanager soccer faces tough St. Thomas More By Parker Knox
Sports Writer ?I knew this was going to be a tough game for us, coach Dave LaCombe said about his Vermillion girls? soccer team?s date at St. Thomas More last Friday night, and he was right. The top-rated Lady Cavaliers handed the Tanagers a 6-0 loss in Rapid City as the Vermillion girls made the first of two consecutive West River road trips. LaCombe was missing three starters who didn?t make the trip to St. Thomas More, and he? assigned Katie Wasley? to her first varsity start as goalie. ?Katie did an outstanding job in goal, LaCombe said.? ?They compiled 18 shots on goal, and we allowed only six goals.? We played better in the second half, allowing only two goals, so I was pleased with our defense. Vermillion returns to the Black Hills for a Friday night game at Sturgis and a day game Saturday at Belle Fourche.? Next week the Tanagers finally get to play their home opener Tuesday evening against Sioux Falls Christian, and they will also be home next Friday night against West Central.
