This week in Vermillion High School Golf

This week in Vermillion High School Golf By Joe â??MOJOâ? Reiser Well, folks, with all the windy information I put you through last week, I will not have so much to tell this week. The Vermillion high Boysâ?? team hit the road for Harrisburg for the Harrisburg Invitational which was held at Spring Creek Golf Course. The Tanager varsity team finished in third place, with a solid performance. The team event was won by Sioux Falls Christian with a 313. Next was Dakota Valley at 322 and in third was our salty quartet of 80s golfers. Erik Ustad and Cole Andre posted a pair of 81's, followed by Aaron Steele at 82 and Jake Hogen with an 84. The tough Tanager team total was 328. Mitch Nelson scored 101 and Zach McDonald 108 to round out the rest of the varsity scoring. The fab four finished way ahead of the WC team which scored 361, which is a major victory. Along the way, our young men also left Harrisburg, Lennox, Tea Area, Dell Rapids, Canton, Beresford, EP-J, Parkston, Mitchell Christian and Tri-Valley in the dust. The 33 stroke pummeling of WC will stand as my favorite beating of the week. Medalist for the competition was Rainey Reynolds at 74. In second place was his SF Christian teammate, Ethan Blankespoor at 75. Erik Ustad and Cole Andre tied for ninth.? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?  The next action for our local lads was in Yankton on Friday, Sept. 5. Now understand that Yankton is a Class A school and boy, did those Bucks have a good day on the Hillcrest Golf and Country Club in Yankton. Both the varsity and JV made the trip. Aaron Steele fired a respectable 78 to finish in sixth place. Wow! Nice round, Aaron, but Yanktonian Marc Gubbels went out in 36 and came back in at 33 for a 69. Sheeesh. Next for Yankton was Jordan Mueller at 71 and the third and fourth golfers had 75s. This kind of gives me a chill. For the feisty Tanagers, Aaron Steele had a 78, with Cole Andre chipping in with an 84. Erik Ustad posted an 87, followed by Zach McDonald at 93 ,with Jake Hogen and Mitch Nelson at 98. Other scores for the junior varsity had Patrick Haught at 103, Greg Styles at 107, Jaron Sorensen at 108 and Owen Korcuska at 117. The JV posted scores of 79, 81, 84, 84, 90 and 92. I mumble and mumble and can only imagine that these guys will be salty for quite a good while. Well, our guys are in action as I write this, in a duel with Lennox, at The Bluffs. On Sept. 12 the Vermillion Invite is also at The Bluffs. I hope everyone gets a chance to go out and support our golfers. Until then we will see you on the course.?  MOJO
